What is surgery like?
Dr. Rau will map out the areas that need to be treated using a marker. Then, local anesthesia will be administered. A small incision will be made where the cannula will be inserted. Next, the cannula will be moved in a methodical, back-and-forth motion to loosen the fat tissue. This enables the tissue to be suctioned out through the cannula. Depending on the technique and extensiveness of the treatment, the whole procedure could last for a few hours. After the operation, small tubes may be temporarily left in the incisions to let excess blood and fluid drain properly.
What is recovery like?
After chin liposuction, numbness, swelling, and bruising in the chin region are normal and should clear up after a few days. Analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs or ointment are given to help with post-pain and discomfort. Normally, with proper care, you should be able to go back to work after just a week.
